James Maddison Transfer: Spurs closing in on signing the Leicester City top gun

James Maddison transfer

In the saga to secure the signing of Leicester City’s midfield superstar James Maddison, Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the frontrunners to make James Maddison transfer happen. Although Newcastle United were also in the race for him with a keen interest in acquiring the services of the English attacker, it appears that their priorities lie in Milan at the moment.

Following Leicester City’s shocking relegation from the Premier League, Maddison is now set to leave the club for obvious reasons, and Spurs are expected to make a fresh offer to secure his services. In fact, just last week, Leicester turned down a bid from Spurs for the 26-year-old and the winger Harvey Barnes together.

Newcastle, who previously attempted to sign the Englishman last year, remain interested in his talents. However, sources suggest that their pursuit of the midfielder may be hampered as they are close to finalizing a deal for Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. Newcastle is reportedly set to acquire Tonali for a fee of €70 million, potentially leaving the path clear for Tottenham to proceed with their pursuit of Maddison during this transfer window.

While Manchester United have also been monitoring Maddison situation, it is now believed that they are unlikely to pursue the signing of a No. 10 player, given the presence of Bruno Fernandes in their side who fills in the role. Chelsea, under the management of Tuchel, extensively scouted Maddison in the past, but they have other priorities in this current transfer window.

With newly appointed head coach Ange Postecoglou widely expected to implement his classic 4-3-3 system at Tottenham, there is a pressing need for new reinforcements in midfield. The acquisition of Maddison would provide Postecoglou with a much needed and crucial creative outlet and bolster the team’s attacking options.

Under the previous management of Antonio Conte, Tottenham often lacked the required creativity in midfield. Maddison, who showcased his creative prowess last season with 10 goals and impressive performances, is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s most talented playmakers. Furthermore, his form earned him a spot in England’s World Cup squad, making him a strong contender for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

While Newcastle possesses the financial strength to outbid Tottenham and can offer Maddison the allure of Champions League football, their focus at the moment is primarily on securing the services of Sandro Tonali. Talks between Newcastle and AC Milan have progressed positively, and the 23-year-old Italian midfielder is currently awaiting permission to undergo a medical examination. As the transfer saga unfolds, all eyes will be on Tottenham and their pursuit of James Maddison, as they aim to strengthen their midfield and compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
